Program Developer

Francis Deblauwe is a Program Developer with the Alexandria Archive Institute. He was the Director of the Iraq War & Archaeology project which gathered and assessed information on the state of the archaeological heritage of Iraq in the aftermath of the 2003 invasion by the US and allies. In this context, he interacted with the media extensively and published both in specialized and lay venues. He holds a Licentiaat degree (1984) in Archaeology and Art History from the Katholieke Universiteit Leuven in his native Belgium and received a Ph.D. in Near Eastern Languages and Cultures at the University of California, Los Angeles in 1994. His research statistically analyzed spatial variables of Mesopotamian buildings, including circulation patterns. He has participated in excavations in Belgium, Jordan, Turkey and Syria. He also gained valuable experience in the business world as a competitive intelligence analyst at a national telecom company.
