Types of Membership

The International Council for Archaeozoology consists of a General Membership and an elected membership, the later of which is comprised of the Committee of Honor, International Committee, and Executive Committee and Officers.

General Memberships—

There are two types of General Membership: 1) Individual Members and 2) Institutional Members.

1) Individual Membership in ICAZ is open to anyone with an interest in archaeozoology for an annual fee of US$20. ICAZ offers reduced membership fees to students, retirees, unwaged professionals and individuals of certain countries. ICAZ currently has more than 550 Individual Members, representing more than 57 different countries around the world.

2) Institutional membership is open to institutions and other organizations. ICAZ offers reduced membership fees to institutions in certain countries.

Elected Memberships—

There are three types of elected memberships: 1) Committee of Honor, 2) International Committee, and 3) Executive Committee and Officers.

1) Committee of Honor membership is conferred by majority vote of the International Committee upon individuals who have made a major contribution to archaeozoology and/or to ICAZ. Benefits and rights of Committee of Honor members include all those stipulated for Individual Members, but they are not required to pay membership dues. The are currently 18 individuals on the Committee of Honor.

2) The International Committee is an intermediate, representative body of 25-35 Individual Members elected by the General Membership to ensure that the aims of ICAZ are met at the highest level of international standards. Benefits of International Committee Members are the same as for Individual Members and, additionally, they have the right to serve on the Executive Committee, an invitation to and right to attend International Committee Meetings every two years, and the right to nominate and vote for Secretary, Treasurer, and At-Large Executive Committee Members following stipulations in the ICAZ Constitution. There are currently 32 individuals on the International Committee.

3) The Executive Committee oversees the operations of ICAZ. It consists of 10-12 members, including, the President, Vice-President, Treasurer, and Secretary of ICAZ, the Present Conference Organizer, and Immediate Past Conference Organizer, plus two to four at-large members who are members of and elected by the International Committee. Terms of office, nominating, and voting procedures and duties of Executive Committee members are stipulated in the ICAZ Constitution.
