ANNOUNCEMENT RE
PUBLICATION OF THE 9TH ASWA MEETING
Abu Dhabi, 13 January 2009
Dear Colleagues,
Happy New Year! It was a real pleasure to have those of you
who were able to come to Al Ain and we missed those who were
unable to attend. We would like to remind you of the discussions
and questions which arose at the plenary session. The first
question concerned the next ASWA meeting. The only proposal
was Brussels in Belgium. The organizers will soon send the announcement
for ASWA 10 which will be held in 2011.
The publication of ASWA 8 is practically finished. Emmanuelle
Vila and Lionnel Gourichon brought the 2 volume draft copies
of the final version. ASWA 8 is being published by La Maison
de l'Orient in Lyon.
ASWA 9 will be published either by Oxbow Books and/or ARC. We
will soon inform you of news concerning this matter. As for
the most important point, the deadline
for the submission of the papers for ASWA 9 is 1st
June 2009.
Those delegates who could not be with us at the last moment,
but who sent their abstracts in advance, had their abstracts
published in the conference booklet, see:
http://www.alexandriaarchive.org/icaz/ASWA_2008/programme.html
We urge you to submit
your paper in time, since we will have a considerable amount
of editorial work to undertake. ASWA has had until now a policy
of not limiting the publication volume. This has provided a
unique opportunity for our group to publish raw data. We also
do not have a reviewing policy, beyond the editing carried out
by the main editors. We are going to submit a proposal to Oxbow
Books and will need to have a clear idea of the papers that
will be published. Please therefore send us an email with the
Title and authors of the paper you want to submit for the ASWA
9 volume. Please also give us an approximate idea of the length
of your paper, i.e. number of pages, including number of tables,
graphs, figures, etc.
We plan to continue updating the website occasionally. Please
send us any interesting pictures from the conference which you
are happy to share (e.g. individual or group pictures taken
during the conference and/or excursions). In the meantime take
a look at a few pictures we have uploaded to the ASWA 9 Photo
Gallery.
We look forward to hearing from you.
Best wishes,
Marjan Mashkour and Mark Beech
