Pathology?

Dear Zooarch, I have found a specific anomaly in 10% of the proximal phalanxes of fallow deer in a Middle Paleo site. In fact, this particular “malformation” is being repeated in the same part of the bone, in the medial face, immediately after the fusion line (all phalanxes are fused). It is a hole, indeed, always irregular but quite similar in size. In my opinion, it looks neither an anthropogenic activity nor a carnivore one. Thus, I have thought it could be due to pathology. Have anyone ever seen this alteration before? Thanks in advance, Ana Copyright
