Title

butchery marks on cattle mandibles

Description

Recently we have found a large number of cattle mandibles, dating to the 16th-18th century AD, that show chop marks at the front part of the mandible. The photo shows some examples and the arrow points to the point of impact. Does anyone know for what reason the front part of the mandibles were removed?

Many thanks,
Joyce
