Note about Mexico City Elections Protests We have received a number of questions about the current situation in México City in view of the political issues after the Presidential election. As today (August 8) the city is working as usual. While there are a lot of traffic jams, there have not been any real confrontations or civil disturbances. The area with major problems is Downtown and the Centro-Reforma corridor to the west of downtown. This is where the protestor’s camps are located and vehicles can not circulate in this part of the city. But even here there have not been major problems. As for the conference site and nearby, the area is in calm, and the final arrangements are coming along. Public transportation is running fine, and, as before moving by Subway is the best choice. We advise that anybody still looking for hotel reservations to refer to the Conference Website: http://www.alexandriaarchive.org/bonecommons/icaz2006/accommodations.html for hotels for which we have checked that the service is going as usual. In particular, we would advise people to book in hotels near the site conference, like Via Veneto, Montreal, and Finisterre. There is also a Holiday Inn nearby that will be advertised on the website soon.
Official Announcements Regarding Traffic / Transportation in Areas with Demonstrations
Please check this conference website for any further updates. We have also started a discussion thread about the protests in the BoneCommons forum. Please check this thread for additional updates.
