About the AAI |

|
In August of 2001, our team formed the AAI, a California tax-exempt 501(c)(3) organization. Named after the famous ancient library in Alexandria, Egypt, the Alexandria Archive Institute is dedicated to preserving and sharing archaeological and other cultural heritage information. Dedicated organizations like the AAI are needed to continuously keep pace with developments in scholarship, build and maintain collaborations, and provide needed guidance in data preservation and Web dissemination. We work with the larger community of “open-knowledge” initiatives and have launched new collaborations with the Electronic Frontier Foundation, Creative Commons, and the Connexions Project. The AAI also actively builds relationships with other organizations capable of providing repository services, but does not act as a final repository for this information. Repository services to manage and preserve the datasets that we develop are generously provided by the University of Chicago.
